Fairy tales & their magic
Fairy tales and their magic have never been more important than they are today!
In a world where children are given tablets before they can talk, the innocence of a traditional childhood is breaking down and being taken over by technology. I believe children need to get back to their natural curiosities about how the world works, and fairy tales, though sometimes dark and terrifying, are a crucial childhood experience. In recent years we have seen an overwhelming sanitation of important storytelling culture. Parents are too quick to protect their children from creative problem solving when things don't go as planned. Fairy tales were originally community folklore, orally passed down through generations to teach valuable lessons. And children can understand what happens to rogue witches or trolls when they take things too far. They need both heroes and villains, and their creativity is at risk without this exposure. I urge parents to read the original versions written down by the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Perrault, to name a few. Look at the pictures with your children, ask them questions, watch their eyes light up. We owe it to them and future generations to keep these tales and traditional story telling alive!
